My daughter loves animals & when she got the chance to save her own (fake) furry friend via Scruff a Luvs (+), she was beyond ecstatic. These little pets come in a little carry case box & when you open them they look like a ball of matted fur. You don’t know what pet you are rescuing until you get to the bath! (there’s a bunny, a kitten, & a puppy) The point of these toys is to teach them that they are rescuing these animals.
+ First they need a nice warm bath; after all they haven’t been cared for like they should. Use a sink or large bowl of warm water (watch out as this will get messy if the bowl isn’t large enough). Brush it out while it’s getting washed, it will help the “fluff” level later on.
+ Next, be sure to rinse extra good, & then pull out your blow dryer (tip: toss your furry pet in the spin cycle first to pre-dry) Blow dry & brush your pet so they can be super fluffy. (this was the longest step for us, & she did ask for mommy to help her finish lol) They also go as far as to include a certificate of ownership & a collar for your little ones new pet; let them come up with a name and if they are able I suggest letting them fill out the certificate & collar as well.
As a mom, I truly love this idea. It’s fun for them but also by explaining the purpose of the Scruff a Luv’s rescue they get a little education as well. Alexa didn’t understand what ‘abandoned’ & “rescue” was when I was reading the instructions to her so it gave me a chance to explain what taking this pet in meant, & she was able to ask me all her questions as well. After our conversation was over, she ended with an “I’m going to give it lots of love because it was unloved”, & of course lots of kisses & hugs.
This is definitely a fun cute idea, & your kids will have a great time. My daughter has had it a week now, & she still takes it everywhere, feeds it, & makes a little bed for it right next to hers.
